Password generator

Create strong random passwords on your device with a cryptographic random generator. Choose length and character sets. Nothing is sent or stored.

103 bits · Very strong

Runs on your device. Nothing is sent to a server. Passwords are never stored.

How it works

Set the length, pick which characters to include and press New until you like the result. Copy it straight into your password manager.

Strength is shown in bits of entropy: 16 characters with all sets is about 105 bits, far beyond what brute force can reach. Use a different password for every account and let a password manager remember them.

Questions

Is it safe to generate passwords in a browser?

Yes when it is done like this: the password is produced by the browser's cryptographic random generator and never leaves your device. Check the network tab if you want proof: no requests are made.

How long should a password be?

At least 12 characters for everyday accounts, 16 or more for email, banking and anything that protects other accounts.

Why avoid I, l, 1, O and 0?

They look alike in many fonts. Turn that option on when you will type the password by hand.
